This Booby, and presumably his mate, has been perched on Zuiderdam’s forward Jackstaff all day. He’s on “lookout” on what seems to be a very uncomfortable “perch”. She looks a little more comfortable perched below. Guess I assume the boy is on the top, protecting his mate. Someone said they thought the birds had a nest on the ship (or maybe they’re just hitching a ride.) Boobies are medium-large coastal seabirds that plunge dive for fish and similar prey. The name originated from the Spanish word “bobo” which means silly or foolish
Beautiful sunset. Many people were up in the Crows Nest watching for the Green Flash. It appears at the moment the sun falls below the horizon, but it has to be a perfectly smooth sea and cloudless day. It’s a rarely experienced phenomenon – John’s seen it twice in ten years at sea. Some thought they saw it today, others said “No”. We’ll continue to watch on sea days.
